To familiarize yourself with the tool is implemented conditionally free tool Backlink Checker.

To get access to the full functionality and analytics, you must subscribe.

Ahrefs backlink checker is available through a free, 14-day version of the service. During the test period, the creators provide full access to a database of more than 12 trillion links. In this article, we will work with the information that can be obtained using the free plan.

The first thing we’ll do is click “Browse” in the Ahrefs site browser:

Here’s a description of all the data the site gives out:

  • Ahrefs Rank / DR / UR scores ;
  • How many total external links and Ref.Domains;
  • External, backlinks and referring domains, graphs (all time, one year or last 30 days);
  • New & Lost Ref.Domains and Backlinks
  • Ref.Domains TLDs & CTLDs distribution;
  • Link IP addresses ;
  • Types of links (e.g. dofollow / text / image / etc);
  • Text anchors(clouds , phrases and terms ).

Even in the free version Ahrefs has a lot to say. You get to see information on five URLs and a maximum of two domains per day.

Going to the Backlinks and Referring Domains reports, you can see the top 10 linking domains. You can also use the report filters without restrictions.

There is also free access to 20 links in the Broken Backlinks report, which is very useful if you want to weed out bad links.

The same goes for the Best by Links report. Ahrefs shows the top 20 pages in the domain with the most links.

A few more reports you can use in the free version:

  • New/lost backlinks (and referring domains): shows changes in link mass over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days.
  • List of anchor texts referring to the target URL/domain. Ahrefs site explorer allows you to get up to 1 thousand lines of data per month (in the free plan).
